Hey there guys!

After a blown head gasket and a motor replacement project, I acquired a block/short THOR motor (1999-2002(i think)) to fit to my p38 with a GEMS Motor.

I just thought i would get the information out there about the differences between the two.

1- The crank angle sensor mounting plate
The new motor has a different mounting plate, so you have to grind the two welds off the plate and give it a tap with a rubber mallet to get them out and swap them over, then remove the locating pin and use a small screw to secure it. ** If you need a photo of how to do this send me a PM and ill send them to you, or to identify which one you have***

2- The flywheel
The flywheel is predominately the same although the crank angle sensor pick up ring is a different size, so you have to use the flywheel from your old GEMS motor or a get a new GEMS motor flywheel

3- Camshaft Gear
The camshaft gears are slightly different. They must be changed! you need to fit a camshaft gear from a GEMS motor, you cannot get away with and hope for the best.

4- Oil pressure switch
The oil pressure switch on your GEMS motor should be a white one with a single male terminal one the end. It does not fit in the THOR block so you will need to modify your wiring to suit the THOR pressure switch ( if you need photo's i can send them to you)

Hope this helps you out a little bit if your ever faced with the daunting task of giving your car a heart transplant

Cheers
Ryan
