Back in love ..... with the Rangie

Those of you with a P38 will know that it doesn't take much to fall out of love with your car, but then equally so, it doesn't take much to fall back in. Its a volatile relationship...... but you can never leave.

One of my favourite things about the HSE is the sound system. Even stock standard, it is pretty damn good, but for the last couple of months I have had no sound from the passenger door. This was very disappointing but I struggled along, with no time to look at it.

I strongly suspected the door amplifier so I contacted Andrew E and had a new one despatched to my door.

Yesterday I found the half hour or so it takes to swap them out, and to my sheer delight it was the problem, and now its fixed.

My 2.6 ton V8 iPod is working properly again, and now instead of BEING one of those annoying mysterious sounds, it can revert to its true role of covering them up.

so do you really have your iPod working through the factory Harmon Kardon?

In my "new" black HSE I really like the sound through the stereo and would seriously consider keeping it if there was a tidy way of integrating my iPod... i.e. FM transmitters and cassette adapters are so 2005

    Cheers, Paul.

No, but I am about to send my head unit off to Roverville UK to get the iPod input mod done.

This provides a line feed into the head unit. The sound quality is allegedly equl to the cd unit (on a good day)

    Dave,
Looks very easy to do. I guess any electronic repair man can do it in 20 minutes in any country of the world.
I wouldn't take the risk to send a headunit so far.
I'll do it in December and may to a tutorial.

    Cheers

I hear what you're saying, but I doubt any electonic repairman would have the same level of experience that these guys do, since they have done so many and perfected the process on these specific units.

I don't really want to sponsor Robinson Crusoe in his quest to discover how to add an ipod jack to a Range Rover Clarion Head unit.

However, I do look forward to your tutorial, as I am generally open to DIY where possible.

    Thanks

There has been a tutorial on rangerovers.net but pics gone. It was as easy to solder 2 wires near the cassette head and route a wire with a female jack where you want.
