Thread: Sunroof sunshade lining droop

It's relatively easy to do. Did mine about a year ago. Just follow the RAVE instructions on how to remove the sunroof and you'll take the whole sliding panel out - it's not at all difficult just takes a half hour or so. I pulled the orginal fabric completely off and gave it a bit of a scrub - then glued it back on with car fabric/upholstery glue, the sort you smear on with a toothed comb thing - a bit like how you do grout. Mine finished up great and a year later is still holding strong. Spray on glue won't hold it for long so don't be tempted.... soon as it gets hot it'll get all saggy again so use the right glue from the start.

it's a relatively easy task to remove the roof lining. Removing the sunroof cover is somewhat more involved but the whole thing should take about an hour or less.

I removed the shell and the lining...was a long job properly stripping the residual dried glue...needs to be done thoroughly.

Phoned around for few quotes and found a motor trimmer in Archerfield .. I took the roof shell to him - I strapped the shell to the roof bars... and drove sedately for fear of air pressure causing the shell to crack.

He refurbed it and the sunroof cover for $120 ...all parts and labour. Excellent job. ... it took a couple of days. He did the shell on day 1 then kept it in his workshop to dry properly for another 48hrs... gave me some hints on how to keep it in good order... putting it back was a bit trickey, especially cutting the openings for lights, grab handles etc ...you need to cut a X in the opening, fold the resulting triangles over the edges inside the shell and glue them in place.

I had my complete headlining replaced in a shop when I first got the car. The sunroof had been leaking. After a month or so a tiny bit of the new cloth on the sunroof shade started to come away on the front corner so I took it back. The guy removed the shade in only a few minutes to make good the cloth so its defiantly possible just to remove the shade.

Mine was coming away and getting stuck when i slid the cover back so I just removed the lining completely with the hope that one day I'll get to it.

However, seeing as that is one of only about 6 problems that doesn't immobilise the car, I can live with it.

I did notice early on how much heat radiates off it though being black plastic, so I went down to Supercheap Auto and bought one of those double insulated foil sun reflector shades and cut it up into the the right size pieces to fit in the rectangular mouldings on the top side of the slide visor (take a look at it through the glass and you'll see exactly what I mean). Then used double sided tape to secure them in place. This took a bit of mucking around but it has been well worth it, and I recommend doing it even if your lining is good. Even on a very hot day the underside of the slide visor is quite cool to touch.

Do you notice planes directly above you losing control and crashing from blind pilots?

No but at least when I'm driving the Rangie I have good protection from aliens and don't need to wear my hat...

Classy, but an Armadillo hat would be more fashionable.
