Where can I get a new central locking key fob

    My third post,
Yes I am proud new owner of a Range Rover.
Anyone know where to get either an original or preferably after market central locking key fob for a P38?

I expect that I will need to go to a Land Rover specialist to get it programmed, but don't want to pay the exorbitant price for the key.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,
    Dean

    Hi Dean,
I got a fob from Ayers Automotive in brookvale, cost around $300.

No aftermarket available. You'll need to go to a dealer and quote your VIN. They'll order it. Delivery about 6 weeks. But check to see if your car has had a lockset replaced. If it has, it is is possible the key data was not updated in the LR database. If so, the new key will not work with your car.

There is another option if you know someone in the UK. Send them a copy of your rego papers and you can get one in 5 days from a UK dealer. You need to know what remote you have, one or two. Then order the other. Big savings to be had. I did it with no issues, just found the nearest dealer to my friend and got price over the phone.

You could end up out of pocket, too.

As I've stated previously, I ordered a new keyfob from a dealer here in Australia. It arrived and it was the wrong key. Well, it might have been the right key for the original lockset but I subsequently found out my lockset had been changed by Alto Land Rover but their mechanic did not update the LR database with the new keyfob code.

As a result, I cannot order a new keyfob (that will work) for my car. I've since found out that this is not uncommon. A number of cars had ther locksets changed under warranty and the database was never updated.

I didn't have to pay the dealer for the keyfob as it was the wrong one. If you bought overseas you wouldn't have that option.

Just wondering, is it possible to get a case for the fob and dismantle the old one and change across all the internals including the key?

If you can pick up a second hand one, you can split the case fairly easily.

Why would you want to do that?

If it's because the buttons are worn out, just buy new buttons. They are only about $4 from a dealer. Part no. YWC000300

No i'm thinking more like when the spring or the key release breaks.
