Manufacturer ready, "ball park" pricing.
Hi again,
Finally we have some good news with manufacture of P38 Canvas Seat Covers!
I recently had a chat with ProTech upholstering in Melton, just West of Melbourne. They are a well established business with a strong background in automotive interiors and specifically seating. They have done numerous show and custom cars and are currently consulting on the seat and interiors for the 2014 HSV commodore range. And importantly, they are keen and ready to tackle P38's!
The key discussion points were...
1. ProTech can disassemble (sniffle, sob!) my brand new "factory" tailored covers and make a template to in turn do a production run from. FYI, the Factory accessory covers are considered Very Good to Excellent as far as design, cut and fit is concerned.
2. Additional pockets on head rests, arm rests, seat base fronts and upper front seat backs will be added as requested.
3. The material recommended by ProTech is a 6-8oz canvas similar to the type used for boat covers and bimini's. It's medium weight, strong, hard wearing but not stiff, abrasive and prone to shrinkage like some of the heavier canvas used on other covers.
4. There are approx. 12 colors to choose from. This includes P38 sympathetic light grey, dark grey, black, biege, and dark green (similar to BRG). Reds, blues and some others are avail. too.
Approx. sell estimate at this point is $390 Fronts and $780 front and rear. This is VERY competitive when stacked against the pricing of 4wd industry benchmark MSA Canvas Products (who do not do P38 covers). These will be very professional quality covers, NOT sloppy Aldi specials. For that money you get:
- Covers for all seats, headrests and fold down armrests.
- Aligned Velcro access to factory front seat back pockets.
- Additional map/kids stuff pockets above velcro on front seat backs.
- Covers for both head rests and arm rests including additional pockets for phones, torches, tyre guages & other stuff.
- Color(s) of your choice.
Sooooo... the ProTech guys would like a minimum of 10 front sets in the first batch to get going. Hopefully some people will want rears too, but they are not deemed as vital to "start up" numbers at this stage. I will be taking the first full set, RovinRangie the second and Paul at Hard Range is after 2 sets. Also, Troy wants some fronts (assumes pricing above is OK?).
The big question is... who else wants in? And more importantly, any questions or queries? PM your tentative order details to me, and just reply here with queries so everyone can see them.
HooRoo, Dave.
