    P38 canvas seat covers

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anybody has come across fitted waterproof canvas seat covers for the P38 front seats. All the usual offroad suppliers seem to offer them for everything but the RR. Any leads?

    Thanks .. Troy N

GaryCLR on eBay had something like that for sale a while ago. I haven't seen anything recently so it might be best to get in touch with him.

The other option is The Canvas Seat Cover Company in Brisbane (Springwood) but they would need a vehicle to look at to make up a template.

If you have airbags in the seats you will have to get ones that are compatible with them

    Canvas P38 Seat Covers anyone?

FWIW we received the LR genuine items from UK today and surprise, surprise they are actually brand new (and in original packaging). They are not actually canvas, but a "hard wearing, fire retardant, waterproof, washable", heavy duty, woven plastic of some sort. As the label also says they are "Impervious to Mud, Oil, Water, Suntan Lotion and Muddy Paws" !!!

The most positive part is they have everything on the seats covered front and rear including seperate covers for headrests and armrests (again F&R).

So that begs the question... does anyone have skills or connections with making templates/seat covers? Am thinking that if there are enough people serious about getting some canvas ones made up, we could use them as a template before they go on my "pretty pig". I could make a few calls to 'canvas people' in the yellow pages or maybe try and hunt down a cheap off shore production company (where do you start with that?). I just think if there's a known local industry contact on here or available to here then they'll be better able to get something going quicker.

Beyond that perhaps the Hard Range fella's would want something like this in their P38 accessories catalogue too. Whatcha think Paul/Andy?

Anyway, if you are interested reply with preferred colour, material type, whether front only, or front and rear and we'll see what's possible.

I have those genuine one on my P38. They are GREAT. I thought they would be sticky in the heat, but no they are excellant.

I do run sheepskin covers when at home, (nothing else is warm enough in Canberra winter), but when we travel on a trip, Birdsville, Flinders, Fraser, etc its off with the sheep and on with the 'plastic'.

I'm only after front seats. The OEM ones would be a good template if there was an easy way of getting a pattern done up.

I tried ebay UK and there are a few businesses selling aftermarket canvas sets, but none will ship outside UK.

Potentially a bulk order could entice them, or bring them in wholesale? There must be a few interested forumites.

Not real fussed on their colour choice though, I'd go khaki / green or camoflage if it were possible.

Nice to know the originals are actually a quality item (as expected)... do you think they would make a good template?

I have contacted a couple of manufacturers in Melbourne and arranged to show the template to them next week. I am hoping to also get quotes from them at that point but am not too optimistic of a good value equation from either at this point. Does anyone know anyone here or O/S (like every other manufactured apparel style product) who is in the game?

Moderators: does anyone know if AULRO have a member working in this field?

I have also been thinking of a few modifications (to both kill off any copywright issues and make them more useful) like say... mobile phone holders on head rests (just switch on hands free and pop the phone in the pocket near your ear), smoke packet/lighter/stubby holders on captains chair arms (dubious moral but undoubted functional importance for some of us!), map pockets & kids toy pockets on seat backs, and just as many extra storage pockets on seat fronts (under your thighs), sides and where ever they'll fit to put all those extra odds and sod's in (like tyre deflators, tyre guages, torches, survival gear, etc). Hell thinking of it, wasn't someone going on about heated seats not too long ago? Maybe a heat and massage option too!!!

I know its sounding very OTT for some protective seat covers, but if its gonna happen, I'd like to make them worth having. Anyone else got any suggestions?

A very quick update... Went and spoke with first potential manufacturer yesterday and no result. They can do the copy and modifications suggested but are not interested in anything less than a run of 200. Based on feed back so far that'd be approx. 50 times more than wanted.

As a result, I didn't bother talking price.

Have another guy to talk to tomorrow (who is related to a fellow P38'er) so hopefully that will at least get us to talking $'s and maybe get numbers up or a bit more interest from everyone.
