That's assuming the supplied New Blend Motor has pins on it... rather than Bare Wires... (which mine has)....
I'm in exactly the same boat as the original poster... pulled out half the car but have little or no idea how I get this vertical air duct out of the way...
It's a nightmare....
Yes, it is. Even cutting the duct is hard, as stanley knife and hacksaw blades are difficult in the confined space. Use a rope saw (like a necklace with a ring on each end for your fingers) to get around the duct and cut it. I think cutting it in two places is going to give us the best access, retaping it after is not as difficult. Thanks to Willem for the tip.Quote:

Back to the Lexus LS400 this week I think...
It is NOT necessary to cut any ducts - I don't know why so many people do. The ducts are very flexible and will pull apart.

Maybe you had "Super Flexible" Ducts, but the general issue we're experiencing is that the Ducts are easy enough to pull apart from each other ete... However the Big Issue is finding enough space to effectively move the Vertical Duct away enough from the Blend Motors and even the Heater Hoses to perform the tasks required.
It's interesting that we don't have any pictures ete of how you or anyone moved the Vertical Hoses out of the way effectively, it's the missing step in the instructions.
I can move my Duct up and down slightly, and twisted it around but in every case it pretty much covers up the Right Hand Temp Blend Motor (Lower of the Two on RHS) constantly. It makes it nigh on impossible to get a Screwdriver in the location to remove the Blend Motor.
Perhaps I'm missing something, or perhaps I'm not as gifted as some others, but it certainly appears to be much more difficult than any other step of the process.

I'm not sure which duct is the problem. One duct just rotates out the way giving ample access to the servos. I've done it a couple of times and never had a problem.
The Duct we're talking about is the Vertical Orientated Duct which runs from the Top of the Dash down to the Rear of the Air...(actually ends around the Stereo or so)

I'm trying to recall if I pulled it out completely. It's been a while since I've done it. I assume you have the instrument panel out so you can get access to to the blend and distribution flap servos from the top.
Also, with reference to the blend flap connectors, one has top open up the connector lock then release the clip from the retaining crimp with a jeweller's screwdriver. See below:

Thats the one we are referring to... going to the right in that picture heading up towards to Instrument Cluster (if it was there).
Yes I've removed my cluster, but as I said before the issue is that the Duct conceals access to the Motors...
This pic might help explain it a bit more, although I don't recommending pulling the dash out to check ;) I've done it once and don't want to do it again...

When you disconnect the top RH duct, you can see what the centre duct pivots on. From memory (this was over a year ago) you can pull the duct toward the RH a bit to help swing it out of the way to get to the motors.
You did pull this little duct out the way didn't you?
