    Transmission Neutral

    Hi evryone,

I have the warning on my dash, comes up when I first start it, "Transmission Neutral". I have no drive in any gear in the auto, there is no warning sound when I move it from high to low or back again. There is a noise as I put it back into Park when the motor is still running. RACV guy says the auto is running but may have a sticking valve not releasing oil or something. My mechanic is also making dark warnings about it may be the transfer box. I am trying to get the car ready for a trip through the centre and up along the Gibb River Road. I would hate to sell it and get a Prado but am getting frustrated. Is the P38 up to the trip. Is the complete auto and transfer box stuffed, how much more cash is this going to chew up.

The transfer box can be put into Neutral for towing so this might be worth investigating......

You can select Neutral in the transfer box as follows:

    Select Park
Insert a fuse (>5A) in position 11 in the fuse box under the drivers seat
Switch Ign on. After a few seconds, the 'Transfer Neutral' message should come up
Leave the gear selector in Park whilst being towed
To re-engage the transfer box, switch off, remove above fuse, switch on.....

I think there is another fuse involved with the transfer case, could be 15, maybe someone else will know
Does the low high / range have any effect when you select low

Thanks Wayneg, the auto electrician must have just placed a blown 20amp fuse in there, I replaced it on Saturday thinking I was doing the right thing.

I hope to be at Mandurah about August to see a mate and I owe you a beer if you want to collect.

Glad I could help, and dont hesitate on the trip. The P38 is a great machine as long as you dont take it swimming.
