all seems a bit suss to me... however...easiest option is to disable the alarm and use the key as a straight mechanical lock... cheers
I had to get a new key fob for my Range Rover about 14 months ago,and as it had to be sent from the UK I was up for $428,so I paid it and the new key was duly sent through ULR in Melbourne, now the remote does not work and ULR tell me that there was always a problem with those remotes that Land Rover were apparantly aware of.Anyway ULR told me that I would have to get a complete new lock set and then my computer would be sent to Sydney for recoding all this would cost $2600,so Last week when I rang to book it in they told me that the lock set I needed was now obsolete and the new one that is available can not be coded into my existing computer so I will have to replace that too all this at a cost of $6500.
Anybody know of a way around this,if I was to get a lock set and ECU second hand from another vehicle could this be coded to my main computer??

Very suss....
Sounds like typical dealer/stealer GOUGING to me.
You gotta remember that a lot of the people working(?) in these places actually go to CTS (Clown Training School) for qualification before they get their LR/RR positions... you know, they are just very funny people!!!
Try calling AMV in Ringwood, they have been the best (for honesty and value) that I have been able to find across Melbourne in the last 10 years of P38 ownership... They are happy to give advice, can either supply new or second hand parts and even let you supply your own parts (like if you have the time to go trawling ebay UK or similar).
Either way, do yourself a favour and avoid being GOUGED by at least letting them check out the problem for you.
you can get lock sets for reasonable price in the UK online sales
Does the key work and not the remote?
If not, then I'd suggest your car, like mine, had the lockset changed at some time and the LR mechanics never recorded the new lockset no. As a result, the LR records will show the original lockset info and you will be unable to order a key to match the installed lockset.
Ask me how I know. At least my dealer refunded the money when the key didn't fit.
The dealer can check the records to see if the lockset has been changed.

there are many ways round the problem.
it might be possible to repair your original key.
or reprogram your becm to the code they ordered the new key on.
or get a lock set yourself (about $1700) and send me your becm for programing.
or de activate the alarm and have after market remotes.
or no remotes just the key.
but the first thing to do is get hold of the code they ordered your new key on as if you have the code the key is worth something even if you sell it.

The remote did work for a while then just stopped.and as there are no more keys available for this car I have to get a new lock set that would come with 2 keys, but now they are saying that the lock sets are no longer available and the new ones can not be coded to my BECM.AND the back doors dont even unlock or lock when I use the key,I have to unlock and lock them manually!!!
I wasn;t aware that there were after market remotes !! where would I get this from. Also you suggested that I get a new lock set and send the BECM for programming, this I would love to do,but I am having problems finding one,I have done extensive research and I cant find any body who has them being as Land Rover no longer guarantees them as they are classed as obsolete.
