I hadn't heard of aftermarket remotes, either. However, you can get your remote repaired by a mob in the UK. They can also clone your remote. I'll try to find their details.

I bought a spare BECM from a fellow forum member. You might try Andrew E on this forum. He wrecks P38As and had a lockset/BECM for sale.

You can get them reprogrammed by Lee Bourgeois on Labtronx in Mittagong NSW LAB Electronics Electronics for the Automotive Industry. (Rupert, do you reprogram ECMs?)

you mentioned the central locking does not work correctly. this could be part of an under lying problem, it could be stopping the resync of the remotes. it could be just a broken door latch. how many doors do not work? also in the engine comp fuse box there is a green relay which is identified by a picture of a key on the legend inside the lid, swap this with another relay (not one from something vital). there are many other things to try before you start parting with loads of cash.
the cheap after market remotes need some fiddling to fit and would not use the original secuity system, they also need the central locking to work. i contacted the guy in uk who claims to clone the remotes but after i asked him how we could get stuff from him to Australia he never returned another email.
and yes i do reprogram becm units and do some remote key fob repairs.

Both the back doors don,t work I have to pull the buttons up and down manually to unlock/lock them.

if it is only the 2 back doors that do not work and all the others work then no it is not necessarily the door latch. that door latch price is only slightly cheaper than a dealer should charge so i would leave it.
does the red light flash on the remote when the buttons are pressed and has this remote ever worked with this car?

Yes the red light flashes and the remote worked fine when I first bought it,in fact it worked for just on 12 months.
Just to add about the red light,it does not flash all the time it is spasmodic!! and sometimes it just stays on all the time even when I am not using it !!

Does neither button work? I had a remote where the switch broke away from the PCB so the car would lock but not unlock. I resoldered the switch and that fixed it (I'm still using it several years later).

it does sound like it could be repairable, did the remote ever go for a swim (they corrode quite badly) and is this the only remote? you could get a normal key copy cut and the see if someone locally will fix yours, if not post it up here and i wll have a look.
i also checked with a few suppliers and something has happened with the locksets, the price of the last available type (433kh) went up to $1800 for a while and then disappered off the price list. so is probably gone for good.

Rupert I think that sounds like a place to start ,I will get a key cut today and if you PM me with your address I will send my remote to you ,if that is still ok,then if that doesn't work I can move on to something else.Oh by the way ,no the remote has never had a swim to my knwoledge, but there was one time when I was visiting a friend and her kid thought i was a game control and took off with it and I don't know how long he had it for but my car was out the front ,he was inside but he was pointing it through the window and pressing like mad ,and when I got back to the car I could'nt open it and when I did I was in key code lock out,it has never really been the same since,I didnt mention this before as I had forgotten about it,as it was quite some time ago!
