    Auto transmission problem

It seems that my 1997 P38 has no second gear. It shifts straight from 1st to 3rd.Real problem when towing. Does anyone know what maybe causing that. Also can anyone suggest a good auto transmission guy in Melbourne
    Thanks

As I noted in your aircon question, you need a Land Rover specialist.

The problem may not be transmission related but may be electrical, e.g., XYZ switch (see Transmission Selector Switch Diagnosis & Repair) or a faulty fusebox.

Are you getting any Gearbox Fault messages in the Message Centre? If so read RAVE, Section 44, Automatic Gearbox - ZF Auto.

Connecting the diagnostic computer may show up some fault codes. An air con or transmission place won't have that diagnostic computer. If you were nearby me, I'd put mine on for you.

Not sure what part of the city you're in - check out either Ritters in Burwood (ritter.com.au) or Melbourne Land Rover in Port Melbourne and Malvern (ulr.com.au or mlr.com.au). There's bound to be others around in the city with Land Rover diagnostic gear but those are the three I know.

Ritters know their stuff... I am a big fan of AMV in Ringwood. They know their stuff and don't charge like wounded bulls like a lot of other LR/RR "specialists"

That's not bad. I know from experience just how long it takes to interrogate the ECUs.
