    Smile Newbie needing advice

    Hi,

Need some help guys, I have just got my first P38A and there are a few things I need to get sorted out sunroof seals, cruise control to name a few.
Can anyone let me know where I can get parts / aftermarket parts in the Perth area, or any good scrap yards I can rummage about in?

    Thanks

    B

Can't help you with the Perth thing, but I can point you in the right direction for your cruise control!

Open your bonnet, go to the upper right hand corner of your engine bay (looking at the front of the car). You will see a little unit that is a rubber diaphragm with three rubber hoses coming off it. Check these three rubber hoses for cracking or cuts. If any of them have come off or are perished you'll most likely need to replace them. This should fix your cruise issue, however there may be another issue like an ECU fault or the like, however 9 times out of 10 it'll be the hoses!

    Cheers

What Keithy said - check the vac hoses first and then the switch on the brake pedal.

What year p38 is it ? If it's an early one and the hoses check out then ecu could be it - it's part number is AMR1173 and I've had to replace it on both my old disco and current p38.

Can't help with Perth parts but Graeme at British Car Components - spares and parts for British cars, Melbourne Victoria, Australia here in Melbourne can post parts out. eBay UK is also your best bet for value. There's also Andrew E here on the forums that has a lot of bits.

    Hey Mate,
There are plenty of places in Perth for Rover spares. Linn Rover, Rover Tech, Rovacraft, Discovery Automotive, and plenty more. You wont find many wrecked P38's around here, most P38's grow up in Subiaco/Claremont and then retire to the country, not many of them meet an early demise. Linn Rover usually have a couple there though if you're chasing second hand spares, and Sarah there is really nice too.

Anyway, let me know if you need any help or advice.

    Cheers,
    Keels.

    Sunroof seals..
Where is it leaking? if water is getting past the seal on the outer edge this is not an issue as it should drain away via the 4 drain tubes. If they are blocked then they obviously need clearing.
If water is getting in via the glass to rubber seal then this can easily be sorted.
Remove the sunroof panel, then rubber seal. Clean all the rust from the seal and wire brush off all rust on the seal locating lip around the panel. Apply a rust inhibitor then when dry a light coating of glazing silicone. refit the seal and you wont leak again.
You need to get parts from the UK to save big $$
Where are you located in Perth, What year car.
Always happy to help if I can

    Guys,

Thanks for your help. The P38 is a 1996 model has full service history and generally is in very good condition, she has only had one owner and travelled 157,000klm.
Im currently living in Baskerville, But will be moving to the Mandurah area soon.
The sunroof wasn't seating properly after being opened and the mechanic said it was due to seal and would probably leak. The problem is at the rear it seems to close down on the passenger side, but not on the drivers side and you can see a distortion in the centre at the rear on the seal. Only after playing with it for a while will it finally seat properly.

    Cheers,

    B

It's a simple alignment issue by the looks of things! Mine is the same - and the roof lining is starting to get wet as well! Time to clean the sunroof drain lines out and fix her up... All this rainy weather in Townsville is starting to take it's toll!

    Cheers
