New feature... horn sounds when activating cruise control

The newest feature to manifest itself is the delightful sound of the horn when activating the cruise control.

It's good to warn you people around you that you are switching to auto pilot but can be a bit annoying.

The cruise control does start by the way.

Any theories ? I'm guessing something like rotary coupler ?

It could be the rotary coupling/spiral cassette but I''d be pulling the airbag off first just to make sure the horn switch contacts are OK first.

Does anything strange happen around corners? This is usually when the RC/SC problems show themselves.

If this had happened -after- you kindly tested my garage for rogue EM emissions, I would be mortified!

    Good luck!

As I've said before, owning a P38 is like living in a haunted house.

Other people think its weird, but you just get used to the strange noises and unusual things happening.

My wife called me one day (some years ago) to tell me that when the windscreen wipers were activating on intermittent that the horn was sounding on each wipe.
It has never done it since.

Yes we still love our RR
Some times they make us laugh and cry on the same day

MIne used sound the horn occasionally when going around corners. People think you are tooting them - and give you the finger.

It stopped after I replaced the fuse box. Dunno why.

Well another few hours of my life this weekend that I won't get back, but one of the upsides is, I seem to have fixed this problem of the horn sounding every time I activate the cruise control.

I took the steering wheel airbag off, and not doing anything in particular just gave it a good clean out, ran some light sand paper between the horn contact points and sprayed some electronic circuit board cleaner on the plastic circuit contact points.

Put it all back together and its back to original spec.

Also managed to fix a few dashboard rattles by using some 1mm aluminium stripping and replacing the broken holes which attach the cowl to the dashboard. The aluminium stripping is siliconed over a decent surface area on the back and the hole is exactly where the original point is.

Pretty solid now and no rattles ... I hate rattles.
