    Blend Motors

    Ok guys, I know this has been covered a bit but I have a few questions. My Drivers side blend motor has bitten the dust. Just the thing during one of the hottest summers in Perth that I can remember. So down to the questions.

    Now I haven't pulled it out yet, but after some reading it appears its the gears that strip and fail, not the motor. Is this correct?

    I read a thread about using the Peugeot blend motors, but they seem to be even more expensive than the Rover ones, coming in at about $250AU per servo. Looking on eBay, the rover ones sell for about 150GBP posted for a set of three on a loom, or about half that for 1. Is it worth replacing all the blend motors when you start getting into it, or just replace the broken one?

    Also, are there any other jobs I should get out of the way while I'm in there? I heard someone say to do the heater core o-rings while you've got it apart?

    And finally, does anyone have an old broken blend motor they'd be willing to part with so I can have a look and play before I go pulling my car apart? I have a few silly ideas that I think could work, but would like to look at the unit first.

    I have fiddled with my B/motors a bit over the years.
    I have never had a stripped gear in the servo.
    There are some trim pots in the unit that i believe can be replaced/parts available at most electronics shops.
    I have 2 spare B/motors, if you remove the one that is US cut the cables and splice a new one in, if you have nimble fingers you dont need to pull all the dash out.

    Dont assume blend gears or motor...

    Both my temp blend unit have failed and the gears looked perfect. The motor also worked fine, which leads us to believe that it was in fact the potentiometer that was at fault (as it is about the only other thing inside the box).

    I pulled one of mine apart and the motor brushes had completely worn away. This pic of one with broken teeth was from my daughter's Peugeot 405.

    Good work Ron gives people an idea of whats in the blighters.

    As luck would have it my recirculation flap servo has packed it in on the drivers side fan.

    So i have a job to do on the old girl again.

    Cheers for the responses guys. Have ordered a set of three from the UK with my window reg. So a few hours to be logged in soon on the rover. Probably get it working just in time for the end of Summer
