When they get 'sent off', they're set up so they can check the spray pattern before & after cleaning.
It's a bit difficult to do this at home unless you want to rig up your own pump/rail system.
Hi all
Is it possible to remove and clean injectors in a manual diy way rather than sending them off?
I am running on LPG better at the moment than petrol, especially at cold startup and so I am suspecting injectors or fuel pump. Is the fuel tank additive good? Do injectors eventually wear out? Mine are at 230kkm.
Thanks!

The way they clean them is to immerse them in an ultrasonic bath while cycling them on and off , with a solvent forced through them under pressure.
IMHO, this is a bit outside the normal DIY.
I am not sure of this but if yours is not a Thor, you can buy better reconditioned Bosch injectors from the USA for less than the cleaning cost. Thes ehave been flow matched cleaned etc.
Can someone please confirm that GEMS uses the same injectors as 14CUX?

I should have remembered your other post, as it is fascinating. The common USA injectors will not fit a Thor as the injectors are shorter and run at higher pressure.

I bought an injector service kit from UK ebay for my Gems a while ago and got the supplier to put 5 or 6 extra units in the parcel to capitalise on the freight/postage costs.
The kits consist of new baskets and o rings, so I am sure installing them alone would not be as good as a full refurb. Especially if you don't have the sort of cleaning rail/gear mentioned. However, if it is feasible to soak the injectors in something to de-gunk/clean them (suggestions anyone) and then give them a good blow out with a compressor, I don't see why there wouldn't be some improvement and it be a real DIY process.
I haven't gotten around to doing any of this with mine, but anyone who has a Gems P38 and wants an injector service kit just PM me your address and I'll pop one in the mail. From memory they were only about $30-40 cost to me landed.
FWIW When replacing the rocker arms etc last year, I had all the injectors out anyway so contacted a mobile bloke through the yellow pages who operates out of a van.
He rocked up on time in a HiAce fitted out with all the gear and does 8 injectors at once ...ultrasonic clean, pumps all sorts of stuff through them, tests the spray pattern and their discharge rate etc and runs them through a calibration check. The whole thing took about 45min-1hr and cost a shade under $200 (for 8 (Thor) Bosch injectors). He replaced the seals etc and gave them back to me in plastic clip lock bags ..I thought it was pretty good value.
Have tried to find the receipt...it's a Brisbane crowd... he also does dealer work for the British and European marques around town...
the solvent is not forced through under pressure it is sucked through in reverse by the pulse action, from the tip to the top. also don't waste your time with cleaning the gems injectors even brand new ones have a spray pattern of a garden hose, the late model bosch injectors run fine in the gems system. im running them in mine and there is a few others on this site running them aswell.
