    EAS UNLOCK WITH WINDOWS 7

    I have had untold grief getting a USB serial adaptor working with windows 7. I am no techie however i believe some of the serial to usb adaptors use a slightly different prolific chipset. I have finally found one that works so here is an e-bay link to the seller. Also a direct link to the Prolific website for the correct driver set. ( use these and no others).
    The usb adaptor also has the correct nuts for the eas unlock cable end to screw into. The first one I have seen, all the others I have had have screws.

    Is that 32bit or 64bit Windows 7 ?

    Ist I am running windows 7 home premium 32bt

    The release notes for the drivers say 32 and 64bt and note on the chipset, see .........
    NOTE: For Windows 7, please use RC build 7100 or above build version.
    . USB host controller
    . Device using PL-2303H/HX/X version chip


    Paul, your lead is not the problem, I am more than happy with it as it is so much better made than the old one I had.

    Here are a couple of pics of the "good" usb adaptor with one of the other ones that I could not get working. The good one is on the left and visibly the chips are slightly different in shape and the connecting nuts are correct on the good one but wrong screws on the not so good one

    I do not doubt Wayne. It sounds like he has tried all the usual methods to get the USB-Serial Adapter working. It seems that some setups just don't work. I don't know if it is an anti-virus thing, or a combination of chipsets used both in the PC/laptop and the USB-Serial adapter.
    Decided to test some of my setups again to see if Windows Update had screwed up anything recently...

    EAS Unlock running on Windows 7 Starter Edition (32-bit) on Dell Mini netbook


    On Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) in Acer Core i5 laptop


    On Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) on Dell Studio 15


    Didn't bother taking a photo of it running on Windows XP on the Samsung netbook as I was using that last weekend.

    It is worth noting that in all these setups I am NOT running EAS Unlock in XP Compatibility Mode or as an Administrator. However, I have had situations with folks who could not get it running properly without adjusting the properties of the EAS Unlock EXE file to run in Windows XP SP 2/3 Compatibility Mode and/or as an Administrator.

    To install the PL-2303 Driver you do of course need to run that as an Administrator.
