    Leaking trans fluid! Help

This morning I drove 80km at 100kph and at a fuel station I notice some smoke coming from under the car. A look revealed a shock, she was leaking what appeared to be auto trans fluid. It was shifting and driving fine. No fault codes. It looked like a lot, as it was on the bell housing and gearbox and cross member and fuel tank. It appeared to be coming from near the bell housing to engine sump join, but high - mid way up the side of the gearbox.

When I got to my destination I cleaned it off with a rag, and 5 hours later no more fluid was evident. I started the car and no more came out (in 2 mins), then I put it in drive and no more came out (car sitting still). I pulled the filling bolt out (engine off - mistake) and heaps of hot fluid came out all over my arm. Clearly not TOO much had been lost. I nursed her home with no problems.

Anyone had this happen? Guesses on what it could be? I plan to go wheeling tomorrow and so I would like to have a better look this afternoon. Thanks for any hints.

One more important thing. Yesterday, I got 245/75-16s installed. The type shop pumped then to 43psi. Doubt new oversized tyres would cause gbox issues though?

    Problem solved

    Hi All

Problem solved. It was just the topmost transmission fluid cooler line was loose where it enters the gearbox housing. It is a beatch to get to with a spanner btw, but it was only finger tight, so I went superman on it and stopped the majority of the leak and will nip it up when I think of a way to get a spanner on it or I have the gbox out.

In hidnsight it is pretty obvious; leaking trans fluid with no loss of function points to cooler lines. Should have checked them first.

    Glen
