d is for Diode, its where the tacho take out comes from.
W is for Wont charge Without Wire here
Being that I've spent the last six months rebuilding my engine, I now can't remember, and can't find info on which terminal on the Marelli Alternator to attach the smaller wire ie to the D+ or the W terminal
Any one know where there is a pic or can tell me from their own car which terminal to use?
I had hooked the small wire up to the D+ terminal but it does not seem to be charging? The Alternator is barely a year old.
Many Thanks
Jeff

On most alternators, the W terminal is for the tachometer. I don't think it's used on a P38A (I should go and look at mine but that would mean getting dressed....)
...... I had a look but because the LPG injector bank is mounted right behind the alternator, I can't get the cover off to see where the wires go..
According to RAVE, the Brown/Yellow wire goes to the D+ terminal. The W terminal is not shown in the wiring diagram

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
just looked at the wifes one again... (Im in the middle of sorting out the electrics for the camping trip tomorrow, the winch, the multi battery bodge, the power inlet for solar and a few little things I found earlier)
W has a wire on it (cant make out the colour for the grease
D has a wire that should be on it but isnt because of a snapped terminal,
the tachos not working but the alternator is charging correctly....
more investigation required......
According to RAVE for the disco
B should be a big heavy sucker for the main charge
D should be brown with a yellow trace and is the excite/regulation line (which oddly on the next page of RAVE looks like its transistor controlled, I thought the merillies were internally regualted)
and W
should be White with Gray trace.
I now have NO idea why the wifes alternator is charging the batteries and not running the tacho...

Thanks Ron,
There is no third wire on mine so the W terminal must be unused.
The tacho is working as I was starting the "running In" process today.
Just when I got home the battery was pretty flat.
Ceers for now
Jeff
By the P38 the tacho must finally work off the engine electrics like normal cars. The important wire for charging is the brown/yellow wire off the D+ terminal. This should light up the dash warning lamp for the charging circuit when stopped, ign on.
Battery was knackered from sitting on a trickle charger for the last six months.
The wire in question has a little guide on the side so it can only fit on th D+ terminal
