Job for today (and maybe tomorrow as well)

After a few unforeseen setbacks I now have an almost new (7000k) diff fitted with an new ARB type locker and all 4 new bearings and oil seal sitting on my bench ready to fit this afternoon. Should be interesting.

Wayne, if you are considering fitting a diff guard in the future, you might as well do some preparation now.

I bought a QT guard but couldn't fit it as the studs at the bottom of the diff are too short. Replacing them requires removal of the diff centre and punching them out, then fitting longer splined studs.

Microcat show the studs to be the type that screw in from the outside but a diff housing I looked at at Bundalene's had studs that fit from inside.

This is the guard (not on a P38A diff):

Have not considered a diff guard now its a bit late.

Rear Locker is all in and bolted up, tested ok.
I could not undo any of the Prop nuts from the diff so it came out with the prop attached. Even on the bench I could not budge one. Angle grinder to the rescue and all off. Will have to go shopping tomorrow for new nuts and bolts before I can fit the Prop. Also managed to put a dig in the airline whilst pulling it through, a 6mm connector is on the list too.
I also think I have at last found the source of the annoying donking I have had since owning the car. Above the exhaust there are heat shields attached to the car. They are like asbestos sheets and are fixed with star washers over pins.
They are very loose and wobble about causing the donking. Will give some thought on how to stop the movement

    ALL Done.

Switches in the console. Compressor, locker, Airline.

    Compressor in situe

Set up the second airline solenoid with a short airline with correct connector to substitute the EAS Compressor if it failed. Not a instant switch over but would only take a couple of minutes if necessary. I did not want unnecessary joins in the EAS system.

And the wobbly heat shields can be silenced by tapping the star washers up tight, I used a 6mm socket with extension bar to tap them home.

Awesome work by yourself! I like the switch mounting.

The difference of the locker and the slow speed at which things can now be done will be amazing.

I`ll take all the credit for all the fitting and wiring but I needed expert help with setting up the diff, Was not taking a chance on my own skills. Thanks Peterjam.
The ARB switches would not suit the P38 dash so I think these small illuminated ones are nice discrete and understated.

Keith, its pretty much down to watching your video demo that I took the plunge.
I am off to check out the Zuytdorp cliffs and surrounds for 5 days over Easter so it should get a trial along the way.
