Caught in traffic crawl along Caxton St this evening due to the Suncorp stadium NRL game. Suddenly three warning lights (ABS/Traction failure/EAS fault) , a chaotic symphony of beeping, no speedo, no trip meter... wry comment from passenger's seat "..thought you said you'd fixed it" .. " sure did" I replied 'but not in the manner I intended obviously...' "...OBVIOUSLY"...we were soon home.
No ABS ECU registering on Faultmate, EAS faults complained of no speed signal; battery voltage 12.9v ....
Trawled the Net for prices on a new ABS ECU / hub speed sensors /...etc etc found a lot of posts on all sorts of ABS issues and mood deterioratedI had already replaced the brake light switch (in vain!)
Finally left comfortable chair and the ABC TV cop drama, grabbed torch and searched passenger's side footwell where I'd recently sorted the A/C leak.. all seemed OK ..then as one does I gave the three connectors on the ABS ECU a bit of a shove for good measure. As soon as I touched the middle one it dropped outHmmm ...pushed it back firmly this time, checked the third one OK, took deep breath and switched the key to Pos 2... 7 seconds of ABS Accumulator charging ...no beeps, no rude messages

I later recalled removing all three connectors to prevent damage when manipulating the duct to reinstall it...
This episode brought home yet again just how "integrated" the systems are on these wonderful machines... after all, why use a simple speedo cable when you can merge the signals from 4 wheel sensors via the ABS ECU which then sends 4972 pulses a Km to the speedo... it's a lot more interesting
P38 problems? What problems?![]()
At least the broncos had a win!
