Thread: Diff whine!!!

Getting a bit of a whine from the front diff that over time has gotten progressively louder and is now audible when driving on freeways at 100. What does that mean? Is the diff on its way out or something?

If it's just gear whine, then it may well go for years & years without a problem (other than the noise).

Have you done an oil change though? I think I'd be tempted to drop the oil & check for any signs of metal which may indicate a bearing is on it's way out.
