    Unhappy Leaking brake fluid P38

    Greetings all
I have just purchased a 1996 P38 in quite reasonable condition. Sadly, this morning after it had been standing for about 4 days I noticed a large pool of brake fluid under the vehicle. At first glance it appears to be coming out in the vicinity of the master cylinder and running down the sub frame and dripping on the ground just under the drivers door. I can't seem to see the leak in the engine bay but it must be significant, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    David

I've had a leaky proportioning valve in mine. It sits in the engine bay just under the booster assy. It took a while to see what exactly was leaking with mine so you might need to give the area a thorough wash down & let it dry to see what's leaking.

Check to make sure the reservoir wasn't overfilled to start with.

    Yes, less than $100.

Here's my thread with the part details if it proves to be the leak:

Thank you everybody for your kind assistance, it has been very helpful in understanding that the problem may not be expensive to repair. I think I might take it to my local Landrover dealer here in Millicent for repairs, given that my wife will be driving this vehicle I want to make sure the brakes are in first class condition for her.

Just one last thought, if the reservoir is overfilled, where does the fluid escape from?

    Best regards
    David

    PRICE OF PROPORTING VALVE

    Hi David

If you need a new a proportioning valve could you let me know as a matter of interest what you pay for the valve. I am currently converting a late Ser 2a from a single braking system to a duel system and the prices quoted to me for the valve range from $30 for a second hand one up to $850 for a new one.

    Unhappy P38 brake fluid leak

Thanks guys the mystery deepens I hot washed the engine bay tonight and dried it with compressed air and cannot see where the leak is despite taking it for a long run and regularly using the brakes. There is still a drip coming from around the area under the drivers seat area between the chassis rails, is there something under there I am not seeing?

    Regards
    David
