Thread: Leaking brake fluid P38

I have the same issue for a while so I hope I can help. The brake fluid is probably coming from the reservoir cap when the vehicle is stopped for a while. What is happening is the accumulator is forcing fluid back into the reservoir when it has been not in use and it comes out the cap and down where you mentioned. I have Ben chasing this for a while and now believe my fault is the check valve in the abs pump, as I have basically done everything else. Do not add any more fluid, turn the ignition on, let the abs pump stop and see where you fluid is, if it's the same as mine it goes below the minimum, then let it sit for a few hrs and see if the fluid comes back into the reservoir. As I said I have tried everything so I have lots of parts you can try if you want to fault find it yourself. I am in Brisbane also.

Looks like a trip to the landrover dealer and and emptying of the wallet, it appears that it may be beyond my technical skills, thanks once again.

Where are you? It might help us point to someone else a bit cheaper than a dealer (although dealers do great work ).

I found mine was leaking out the top a bit and causing some "Low Brake Fluid Messages" to occur... so I added some Steel Wool to the inside of the Oil Filler Cap to slow the Oil's "Flow" and its been find for 12 months now...

Here's the proportioning valve in case you don't recognise it:

I used to get the low brake fluid message. fixed the P valve and now don't have an issue. I do, however, carry around a small bottle of brake fluid in my (dry) wheel well just in case!

I am currently converting a late Ser 2a from a single braking system to a duel system and the prices quoted to me for the valve range from $30 for a second hand one up to $850 for a new one.

Just an update on the brake situation from the dealer today, new pro portioning valve required $170 and a new hose from the abs pump to the master cylinder $270 plus fitting and bleeding etc so probably about a $600 fix.
