Fuel, no rail pressure
During a trip to Brisbane today the recently acquired 96 Hse (2nd P38 glutton for punishment) had an intermittent misfire which was worst at low revs and when pulling away. On the highway it cruised well at 110 but just occasionally missed a few beats before picking up again. On the way home stopped for a meeting for 10 mins then when I went to start it it was misfiring and would not clear enough for revs to pick up and finally stopped completely. Messed around for an hour with good battery turning it over but never showed a sign of firing, checked spark, good, checked fuel rail valve zero fuel pressure so determined it to be a fuel problem. I'm assuming it is pump but want to know if there are other things to I should try before dropping the tank. Finally got home at 8pm care of RACQ tow truck. Ordered Nanocom 2 days ago from BBS...it can't arrive quick enough

I would also check your fuel filter. Easier to replace than a fuel pump! Same goes for relays!
Good luck!

Thanks Keithy, I will check the filter, I did try swapping relays and checked fuses while waiting for tow truck. I have read about people disconnecting the battery for half an hour to reset systems. Is there any merit in this? I got the impression that after five or six goes at starting the engine where it almost picked up the revs it suddenly shut down completely.

Turns out it was the fuel pump. I followed the instructions for cutting a hole in the floor rather than dropping the fuel tank. Great instructions took me about 30 minutes to cut floor and remove pump. I used a nibbles on a battery drill... I am not a fan of cutting discs near fuel tanks! Back in love with the range for the time been..Drives so much better with fuel getting to the engine.
