Been talking about moving from my loved 95 Discovery to a Range Rover for a couple of years now. Read every post on here and been monitoring Carsales for the same amount of time so thanks to everyone's posts I know the joy's and possible heartaches ahead. I always said 2000 or 2001 lowest k's I could get but there's not a lot around at the moment and I need one before Christmas, poor old Discovery is on her last legs. I'm in Queensland so if anyone can assist ie: have looked at and discounted certain cars to save me a wasted plane trip that would be very much appreciated. Getting a bit desperate and even thinking of having a look at the 96 below even though it's five years older than I want with more K's but it is in Qld. Thanks in advance for any info.
Anyone looked at these?

The grey one in VIC has been for sale for soooooooo long although lets be honest the secondhand P38 market never really booms. Looks a nice exaample online.

I have not looked at those, but when I was looking, I found a little bit of patience goes a long way.
They do come up, the trick is to do your research (as it looks like you have been) and be ready to pounce when a good one comes up, as sometimes they don't last long.
I looked for quite a while until a dark green 2001 HSE came up for a good price. I went out and test drove it as soon as I could, everything looked good, so I bought it!
I've had it for two years now, it has been great, beautiful to drive, the air suspension was a big step up from coils too.
I have had to replace the alternator (got the original one rebuilt) and a new radiator too.
To be honest, they were both fairly straight forward jobs to do.
Get yourself a faultmate, those things are invaluable for reading fault codes and helping you diagnose any issues.
Just don't test drive one unless you are ready to buy, as they are insanely addictive!
Good luck with the hunting, I'm sure you'll find a good one soon.

Thanks guys all three have been listed for quite a while and it's hard to tell if there's something wrong or it's just a real slow market for p38's. It's a big call to fly down to look at three cars with possible issues, I guess questions about service history is the best place to start no history no fly.
Faultmate or Nanocom will be the second investment, I just looked at the copy of EAS unlock suite I have and I downloaded it three years ago so it looks like I have been preparing for Range Rover ownership for awhile.

All three of the 2001 P38's you've posted up look good to me, the last one in particular with the overhauled eas gear... The first one is at a dealer so that would be my first call, you can quite easily knock $1500 off that price.
Google "state roads vehicle inspections", once you seem keen on one in particular, have them inspect it (well worth the $200 as their checks are very very comprehensive).
Happy hunting!

Not sure what your location is.
This one is in Sydney i looked at it nearly 2 months ago, it is pretty tidy 8.5/10 but needs some EAS work.
The yard has sold a few quality 38s over the years.
I think he will take $15k for it.

There was one, 2001 0r 2000 silver rangie at the caryard I've purchased my disco from, unsure of mileage as I didn't enquire, was only interested in mine.
be aware the NSW pink slip from this yard isn't wortha lot as I'm finding out now I have mine back home unless qld inspections are just as lax and... It might be gone now anyway as someone was bringing in their old 88 rangie in to potentially purchase the newer one
Certainly get someone to inspect, it was Select Motor Group, 22 Hume Highway Greenacre (though that address can confuse a cabbie until they get on theo ther side of a particular bridge/overpass or something, apparently the road is known differently by different sides)
Otherwise, I will scour everything Saturday and post here. What range are you willing to travel to pick one up? Unsure for Rangies yet but the best selection of Discos to be found was NSW

Okay just got home from work, I'm one of those sad ones that doesn't have internet acess at work or a smartphone so here we go thanks everyone.
Keithy P38 thanks for the offer mate, Brisbane based so unfortunatley your offer of a test drive while much appreciated is a bit far for the old Discovery these days. I did have a look at the inspection site worth a shot before I book a ticket I wonder if they read this forum and know all the idiosyncrasies that seem to befall rangies?
RR P38 I must edit my location will do it after this post, this is how small a market it is at the moment by the looks of it your link and the car 1976 michelle mentioned is one and the same. And champayne gold is the exact colour of my current Discovery and without sounding fussy I really want a different colour after eight years. EAS doesn't scare me in fact I look forward to playing with it I'm setting the purchase budget at $20,000 hoping 15 for the car a set of arnott GenIII springs, valve block rebuild and faultmate/nanocom rego changeover and a few misc.
1976 michelle would even be willing to travel to SA for the right one, but that's the thing really only want to do one trip inspect one or two cars buy it drive it home and have fun with it. Sounds ideal I know but if I ask the right questions it may not just be a dream.
Original criteria let's see if I stick to it!
Prefered colour
1.Silver
2.Dark grey
3.Black
4.Green
Prefered K's was 120,000 three years later now under 150,000.
Year 2000 - 2001
Must be 4.6L heavy trailer to tow.
I am going to look at the 96 tomorrow not because I want to buy it but since I've been looking for three years I guess I better have a drive of one.
