Fuel injector cleaner
Hi guys, I have done a search but I could not find anything definitive but I have been advised that my injectors need cleaning but I thought before I lash out and spend $300 I might try some in tank injector cleaner such as nulon, liqui-moly or similar.
My question is has anybody had any success with this or will it dislodge everything in my tank and fuel lines and block my filters or injectors?
Or will it do as intended and clean my fuel injector and stop the dribbling which is causing poor starting after it has been sitting for a while.

If I were you I would try the cleaner then if no joy buy a fully reconditioned set of Bosch 19lb gen 3 injectors from the US for about $70 for 8. If you are not familiar with these a search should give you all the info you need

Thank you Wayne that is much cheaper than having mine cleaned, it is amazing how we appear to be ripped off on a regular basis.
I had a look at the injectors at the URL you sent me but it says that they are not compatible with a 1996 4.6 HSE have you fitted this type before?

I have a set of these in my 1992 RRC, and they say they are incompatable also.
They work fine in my 14CUX,and the later injection from 95-2000 works on the same pressure.
The incompatability may be that the gen111 injectors like these do not have a groove in the top to retain the injector in the fuel rail.
What I did with mine was to add another Oring which fits over the bottom Oring up against the "ledge" at the bottom to stop the injector slipping downwards from fuel pressure in the rail.
If you want 100% compatability get the gen11 version which is functionally the same , but is larger in size and has the top groove.
My car has o2 sensors fitted , but others have reported good results without them, and your car will not have them unless you have retro fitted them like I have.
I removed my top manifold a few days ago and there were no leaks after 1year with the Orings fitted.

David, as I said do a bit of searching and you will find all the info you need. This topic was discussed very recently on the P38 section and It was confirmed these fit Gems cars. I also posted a link to a Video showing the much improved spray pattern. You should get an improvement over stock by fitting these type.
I have only fitted them into 3.9 Classisc and the are a direct fit with no mods and an easy DIY

Cheers Wayne my query was about fuel injector cleaner in the first instance but somebody else suggested reconditioned injectors if that did not work and the thread took on a life of its own from there I appreciate your support and advice it has been very helpful

I use the Nulon injector cleaner on a regular basis on my 96 HSE, as it is more concentrated and will treat a 100Lt tank, where's most will not do more than about 80Lt without double dosing. If you think you have a minor to medium blockage, then the Nulon full engine treatment seems to be the go. Just remember, no cleaner will clean a majorly fowled up injector without taking it out and servicing the injector properly, or as suggested, replacing them. Cleaners are purely just a preventative, not a cure to an already problem. Once cleaned, regular use say every 2500kms should keep your fuel system spotless.

Hi guys
Well after just over a week of running around with the Nulon in the fuel system, things have improved slightly, it starts better and mileage has slightly improved but the injector/s are still dribbling and causing rough idle and flutter when first started so look like I have to go the full hog and pursue wayneg's thread.
Thanks for all the help, it was worth a try, when the new injectors are fitted I will remember to use the cleaner every 2500k's as suggested.

Try to find an ASNU specialist ASNU.com they will have a flow bench test station which will be able to check flow, electrical resistance and leak test etc. Will be able to ultrasonicaly clean the injectors and fit new filters. Not expensive per injector. You need the blue bosch injectors. Stuffing a cleaner in the tank is not as good as ultrasonic cleaning from the inside as the injectors are fired during the process.
ps if you know you have a leaking injector replace it immediately.
