Changing reluctor ring - easy/hard?

Hey all,

I've been trying to isolate an intermittent issue and have found that my crank position sensor tip is being hit by the reluctor teeth. Pulling off the inspection cover shows that one of the teeth are missing - probably from hitting the CPS. I've played around with a few flat washers on a brand new CPS but it's either still hitting or the engine is running very rough (I'm assuming because the CPS is too far out of the reluctor teeth).

With a tooth missing, i'm assuming that this will cause a poor performance and i'm keen to know how hard it is to change the ring. Can anyone advise?

I assume yours is GEMS. The reluctor ring is part of the flywheel. Not cheap for a new one. LR had to order mine in from the UK and it took about 6 weeks,

I may know of a brand new one locally at KLR Auto and am checking now. They found it on their shelves after mine had arrived.

Changing it is a gearbox or engine out job.

It's just one tiny little tooth missing. i wonder how much this really affect performance? I'm tempted to try and weld/braise it back on.

Next step might be to see if the sensor is picking up the lost tooth - I'm assuming thought that sensor and the hall effect requires a tooth on either side of the sensor tip. Anyone know how I would test this?

That's what I did as one of mine was almost ripped off.

That oscilloscope image is one I got when I plugged my CRO across the sensor.

Thye have a tooth missing so the ECU knows where No 1TDC is.
It is normal.

Here an example of an 480° rotation and its resulting signal:

Yes, you can see that in my image above. The pulses of different heights are from damaged teeth.

Sorry, I hadn't looked at the image .
Thor has a different system with drilled holes , probably because of your problem.
