Thread: Should have left well enough alone (EAS)?

My 2000 P38 has 200k kms on it and the only problem I've had with the EAS is it would drop its bum if left for a couple of days.
As its only the rear and the auto level 'feature' is off, I've assumed it has to be a slight leak in the valve block, not the bags.
So, armed with a goddies bag from Paul I decided to redo the o rings and redo the compressor. Preventive maintenance at its best.

Well now it drops its bum in a couple of hours and the compressor probably needs to be replaced!

Nothing looked bad inside the block and I 'filed' the plunger ends and replaced the diaphragm.

The compressor. Well I managed to break one of the screws holding the end plate/bracket on, so now it only has two screws not three.
Also, I was unable to get the con rod out of the pump so fitted the new seal 'in situ'. However, obviously I didn't get the clamp ring on fully as after operating well for a couple of minutes it 'failed to pump' and a re inspection showed the clamp and seal had come off!
I've reinstalled the seal and it now pumps as it should, but for how long.

So my questions are;

what is the common link inside the block for just the rear bags themselves.
do I repair the existing compressor by drilling out and bolting the end plate and buy a new cylinder/piston kit or
upgrade to a larger compressor (Thomas 337?)

Looks alot like the Viair compressor I bought a while back. No way will it fit in the existing EAS box, and there will be some mucking about to get air line adapters right.
