    Insurance prices and companies!

I'm trying to find some good priced insurance, who do people use and how much do you pay? I get a good price on the comparison sites then when I fill in my details the price almost doubles!

I'm paying quite a bit more with Shannons, around $950 mark with full no claims, but in my experience it's worth the extra for the no nonsense service and the fact that I can buy the car back if written off and choose my own inde repairer

Model, year, your claims history etc etc etc. I suspect most members of the forum have a "reasonable" (= low) claims record and are on a 60% premium reduction -referred to here as a "no-claim bonus". I'm supposing your driving record is basically all in the UK. Rather than go online, I'd firstly get a statement of your insurance record from your most recent insurer in the UK and then talk to a "real person" . While there are 20+ insurance "brands" in Australia, they are in fact owned by less than half a dozen majors.

RACV/RACQ/NRMA etc are reasonable to deal with. Budget Direct /Allianz/Shannons etc are other options and all have cross links with the major insurers for re-insurance etc.

In another life I saw stuff like this with recently arrived expats on 2-3 yr assignment in Australia. The letter from their o'seas insurer often carried a lot of weight in reducing their premiums especially if they bundled car insurance with other policies covering household contents / second car etc. It's a simple but often overlooked principle: you just need to produce as much evidence as possible to the insurer that you are a 'low risk' customer!

    cheers

EDIT: I see you spent some time in NZ... would pay to get a letter of reference from your NZ insurance co. also

Since I have consolidated my 5 car insurance policies from NRMA and AAMI under a single policy with Shannons I am now saving over $1k/year.

That was after having multiple policies and 65% no claim with NRMA for 20+ years.

    Gotta be happy with that.

Check out online quoting from Woolworths and Coles. They are both trying to grow market share in this area, and offer extra discounts on their loyalty program's.

I am with Shannon's with the 110, 90 and the disco.

Works out $1400 for all three fully comp with all the extras

Car hit the 110 last year in the side . He was insured but Shannon's got the 110 fixed and sorted the whole situation perfectly could not recommend them enough

I'm with suncorp, very happy with the service! My last P38 was written off (drowned while 4wding). They wrote it off no questions as I was on a gazetted road.

I am currently paying around the $530 mark, I am 27yrs old.

Places like Youi are great value................

Until you want to make a claim

Shannons do great deals.. Especially if you bring more than one item to them to cover...

And their service when you need it is excellent
