    Lower tailgate straps

Is it possible to use or modify the scissor hinge off a classic to replace the cables on the p38 lower tailgate. After I had one rust out, I don't trust them any more. I hope this hasn,t been covered before because I did search and couldn,t find anything!

You can buy them relatively cheaply. Wonder if there is some stainless ones around.
I doubt one could be modified. As in the closed position the relative height of the tailgate and pillar pins would have to be exactly the same.

If they're the originals, then they were made of a poor quality material.

A bulletin was issued for the problem, NRR/76/33/95/EN.
Part # ALR5237 is supposed to be a better cable.

Ok thanks, I,ll see if I can get some, but it always amazes me that they would change from the tried and tested classic ones to a poor quality crappy one.

I agree the Classic type were a lot stronger but probably overkill really.

The Classic stays also had a habit of swinging when the tailgate was closed creating the odd knock on braking/accelerating.
