HEVAC Problems
I have been having probs with the airconditioning in my P38 for a while, now it continuously blows hot air, and I can't turn it off?? and it is bloody hot in Melbourne at the Mo. I have been told the HEVAC system needs replacing, anybody know anything about this, and what cost is involved. I have had the airconditioner looked at several times, but I took it to Rangie Heaven in Cranbourne who told me about the HEVAC prob.

Do you have the 'cheque book' symbol appearing on your lcd display? I would be hooking up a code reader to see what hevac error codes get thrown up, that would be the best first step.
I have a faultmate extreme, which is a godsend in situations like that, if you don't have one, there would be a Rangie friendly mechanic around that would read the fault codes for you.
What part of Melbourne are you in?
Replacing the entire hevac system sounds pretty extreme to me.

I live in Hallam in the south Eastern suburbs PeterH, and as I said ,it was a Range Rover mechanic that diagnosed the problem for me, but I need another opinion ( or 2 )
ajge I used your link which was spot on and seems to be the cause of all my probs, my son in law is a mechanic but feels out of his depth with Range Rover, but I will send the link to him, perhaps it will make more sense to him than it does to me, being a woman I really don't understand all that stuff, as I said there is a place in Cranbourne called Rangie Heaven and as I have not had any dealings with them, I have no way of telling if they are any good or not, but I will print out the article and maybe take it to them to better explain what I am talking about.
Thanks so much for your responses, I really do appreciate it.

Is it blowing heated air, or just air that's not cooled?
Diagnostics will show if the blend flap which switches hot to cold is faulty; and a/c place will tell you if it is something simple like re gassing, leak, bad compressor clutch etc. Worst case would be the evaporator bad which is buried in the dash ....
You could do the simple stuff first - is the a/c circuit cooling? Does the cltch on the compressor engage?

Try taking it to AMV in Ringwood. A bit far, but at least not completely wrong side of town!
They might want a small charge for the plug in (diagnostics) but the advice will be good.
Tell them AULRO sent you... They get a bit of work through here so are more inclined to be careful to look after their reputation.
Hoo-Roo,
Dave.
