    Conundrum

    Hello all i have recently purchased a wrecked P38 for spare parts, my questions are it has air suspension and all components are there except the compressor. The three wire connection is still connected now my question is this if i take all the components off the wreck and install them on my present rig can i use my on-board compressor to supply the air suspension via the original air tank and tap into the inlet pipe that came from the standard compressor, can i use the three wires to turn my present compressor on and off as required? is the third wire in the loom a signal wire and as such can it be connected to the other wires to signal start and stop of the compressor? Hoping someone has done this before and thanks for the help and support from past and hopefully future.

    If you are going to use another compressor it would have to run through an air dryer first.

    Not sure on the wires, someone electrically minded would need to answer that one!

    Thanks Keithy i was going to use the air from the existing tank to supply the intake hose where the compressor would normally connect using my extra compressor either with a pressure switch to initiate start and stop or try to connect the three wires to my existing compressor as start and stop?

    A further thought if the air tank is full of air would that send a signal to the air suspension system negating the original air compressor and allow the air suspension to be supplied direct from the tank?

    The pressure switch is screwed into the valve block. Use the customised Google search on the forum to find the air distribution diagram. If your onboard air compressor fed into the valve block as per the original compressor that might just work...it would then make use of the dryer etc.
    Depending on the current draw of your onboard compressor, you might be able to splice it into the original compressor harness and utilise it instead...

    The 3 wires going to the compressor are poss neg and neg return through the compressor thermal cutout. You will need to ground out the return wire if you want to use the existing wiring and pressure switch to control a 3rd party compressor. I think using a larger capacity compressor is a great idea and will swap mine for larger if the original carps it. Connecting your own compressor to the original air inlet at the valve block would be sensible as this would keep the one way valve in the air in line and not allow air to bleed out through the compressor

    Thanks Wayneg i was hoping someone new what the third wire did ok so next question my present P38 is on springs with 3" lift can i put a 2" spacer under air bags to install in place of those springs and fit an extension to the sensor arms to keep the bags thinking they are at normal; height.

    That's the basis of the hardrange eas lift kit... 2" spacers, height sensor extensions, etc...

    Hardrange are closing up shop though so good luck getting a lift kit!

    You can replace the stock air compressor with a Thomas 327. Write up of when I did mine at EAS Compressor Replacement « PaulP38A.com

    I also have a Viair compressor that is going to be a "roundtoit" job if/when I get time and motivation. Likely spot for it is in the spare wheel well and a manual switch to supplement the other compressor. A couple of non-return valves should sort any back-pressure concerns.

    Regarding the lift... a few of us run 2" lifts in our P38's with EAS, and apparently there was a mob called Hard Range who used to sell it

    When I shut Hard Range down completely in a few weeks and de-register it, the IP associated with the products reverts back to Andy and me to do with as we wish.

    At that time, I can be more forthcoming with suggestions on a DIY lift-kit. However, you are on the right track:
    - spacer under the air springs
    - extended height sensor arms
    - do something about brake lines (lower brackets or longer lines)
