Service Intervals HSE 4.6 w LPG

I am wondering about service intervals for this motor.

Since it is LPG some say 20K between oil changes, but reading some forums some people recommend 5K oil changes.

    Any opinions on this?

I am leaning towards 10K oil and oil filter changes.

As far as the oil goes I am thinking of using Penrite HPR GAS 20W-60W

Penrite Oil - A Better Class Of Oil

Anyone got any opinions on this as well ?

    Thanks
    Steve

I've been using Penrite HPR Gas on many customers vehicles (and mine) for the last 25 years, it certainly gives good engine life. If your engine is quite young and tight you might consider the HPR Gas 10 lower viscosity version.

10,000km changes seem to be good with these Penrite oils, especially on LPG, unless you are doing heavy off-road work.

I'm pretty sure LR service intervals are 10,000km. Which is what I do mine at. Some people like my dad service their's every 5000km; over the life of the motor I think it pays off - that motor did 1.4 million km.

There's plenty of posts on oil, so do a search. I personally think a 60 weight it too thick. Most run 10W40 to 15W/50.

I did 5-7K intervals on mine - for the first 60k on petrol, then didnt change it for the next 80k on LPG. Just habit? I used a mix of cheaper oil - usually castrol gtx3 on the p38 and gtx2 on the classic.

My P38's had it and needs a reco, but doesn't leak and still runs smooth, infact having it put on lpg but the best LPG installer I feel gave it extra life. But the insides havent been touched in nearly 200k's on a 270k motor so I think thats a fair innings. Its just gutless and slow now.

Reasonable oil, changed in reasonable times is a help, but theres alot of luck to it too if you ask me.

I bought the Penrite and noticed on the label it says, "can be used where a 20W/50W is called for"

    Not sure exactly why though
