    Adaptive values

A bit of advice needed. I have a 97 4.6 and have just replaced the crank sensor because of poor idle and shocking fuel economy. While it has improved greatly it is still not perfect and believe I should have the adaptive values reset or will it reset itself over time? Is this a dealer job, or is there a easier way?

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe simply removing the battery leads for a half hour should do the trick.

    Cheers

    Thanks Keithy

I did try that last night, but may have to leave it for a couple of hours and try again. Some posts say that this doesn't work, but it doesn't hurt to try. The power has increased substantially since changing the sensor, but fuel consumption is not worth mentioning yet!!

That's good to hear. Normally it will follow! Are your spark plugs possibly fouled as well?

They should reset over time. Bad fuel economy on a sound engine is usually MAF, O2 or air leaks. I have a fault mate in Carindale, Brisbane but its tied to my VIN only, however I would be willing to put the Kiwi ODB + Torque app over yours any weeknight this week to compare your running values against mine, I have stared at most of the value long enough now to know when something is out of whack. It might not yield anything but cant hurt.

How does the exhaust smell? Cant hurt to run some injector cleaner through it incase an injector is dribbling.

What are your LTFT? Its a good indicator. Call me on 0414 678 eight 88 if you want to arrange a time one evening.

pretty sure you can reset the adaptive values on a GEMS using a Nanocom Evolution tool.
Have a look on the diagnostics forum to see if there is another P38 GEMS owner with a Nanocom in your area who is willing to help.

Thankyou all for your assistance. Glenhenry has been a huge help to me and will be meeting up with him next week. I found a bad connection on a o2 sensor, and will run it over the long weekend and then see Glen.

The people and technical knowledge on this forum are just amazing, thanks.
