Where is the P38 windscreen washer pump

The title says it all - where is the windscreen washer pump on a P38 1999?

When I press the 'wash' button, no water comes out of the nossles - but DOES out of the headlamp washers (if on).

I've traced the tube back from the nosles on the bonnet, and the non-return valve seems to be working, but no water even gets this far... So I guess the split must be where the pump is.

Can anyone point me to the location of the pump to check there?

There are three pumps attached to the windscreen washer bottle. Right hand side from memory. Have a look behind the bumper. The pumps can be replaced individually. They are colour coded I seem to remember. Can't remember which is which but process of elimination should suss it.

    Hi

It looks as if it is on the bottom of the reservoir

See attached images from RAVE, well worth getting a copy of it

    washers

Look below the battery from underneath. Not too hard to access.

Pumps just push into the bottle with an O ring to seal.

    Thank you!

I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

I'll report back if I ever manage to wash my windscreen again...

Well, two weekends of struggling with it, and still no water.

Should anyone be tempted to 'try this at home', just a warning that there are three pumps at the front of the reservoir - and every one is ever so slightly different. Slightly different tube fittings, but plug compatible electrics.

My plan initially was to swap over the (useable) headlamp pump with the (dead) windscreen pump.

No joy. Tubes are the wrong size.

And now, for some totally unfathomable reason, I can't get the middle pump back in that operates the headlamp washers. Just won't push into the O ring.

Still - I'm waiting for a replacement pump from the UK, and when I get one I'll strip down the whole reservoir to fit both back, and work out what's wrong.

    Sigh.

Why are P38 never straight forward?!?

Finally! Water! In the never ending desert!

Should anyone be tempted to 'try this at home' can I suggest that instead of
    • jacking up the P38
    • removing the wheel liner
    • removing the bolts from the reservoir
    • taking of the tubes
    • dropping it down
    • inserting a new pump

A MUCH easier way to get at it, is to take out the front fog light - it's only four screws, and the three pumps are lined up behind it, here:

And with one push, my problem of slotting the pump into place was solved.

Hurrah! I can now wash the windscreen from inside the car!

That's a great tip, thanks for that.
I just replaced the low screen wash sensor in mine, I would say you'd probably still have to go in the long way to get to the sensor, which is positioned above the three pumps and may not be acsessible from the fog light hole, but this is a great way to do the pumps.

    Too good!

    Thanks mate.
Just when I thought I should spend less time on the rangey, I now have a good excuse to tackle my rear window washer.
    Too good!
