Having been a little confused by this, I thought I would post some info.
As most of us know, the P38 is a British / German creation and so has a combination of Metric and UNC fasteners. I have attached some screen shots from RAVE which show how to identify the different types.
What I didn't know is that the P38 does not have any Phillips head screws, it has PoziDriv (PZD) screws, although RAVE doesn't make this clear.
So if you have ever wondered why the Phillips head screwdriver you were using kept camming out, it is because the screw is a PDZ screw.
They can be identified by extra markings on the head.

I found it makes a big difference because the driver fits the screw head properly.
Good pickup Steve as most std screwdriver sets are of the normal philips variety.
To get PZD- POZIDRIVE set, you need to look around or buy individually.
Agreed!.
Specialist tool places have them (united tools, tools unlimited etc).
Mine are normall phillips heads, though ive a bit set for the tighter screws. Have to admit though, the fastners on the euro stuff is way better than on jap vehicles.
I'm sure those multibit screwdrivers like the Stanley ones have posidrive bits. I have a few rattling around my toolbox - they engage so much better than Philips head as they aren't tapered so don't jump out.
