95 P38 4.6 - power loss - its good for the first bit up to say 1500 RPM then it just dies, and if you floor it it bogs down like its being heavily retarded.
Engine has 215 k's and is original, not using any vast amounts of oil or coolant.
In Neutral it happily revs freely to over 5k, put it in drive and it bogs down and takes ages to do gear changes. Still kicks back, but almost cant even keep up with accelerating b double trucks.
MAF is good, spark is good, does the same on gas/petrol, same if you manually select gears and hi/lo range, its not the air filter, have cleaned all the multi pugs on gems/becm/transfer/transmission ecu's.
About the only things I haven't done are checked the retard timing signal from the auto trans ecu, and test exhaust back pressure in case there is a blockage.
any other idea's?
How does one test if its cam lobes worn? Is there a simple way to test exhaust flow without buying gauges/tapping in?

did it happen suddenly or gradually get worse? what area are you in?
Have you checked your fuel filter, can cauise total loss of power.
Had mine just die on a hill one day and I couldn't even blow through the filter.

if it is the same on gas/ fuel then disconnect the main muffler and try it.

If it wasnt doing it on Gas I would say the fuel pump is the culprit, cos thats exactly what it does.
I would be looking at the Throttle position sensor next.
Fault codes.
Cam is worn for sure , but its a very very gradual loss of power that you will see from this over years. You can pull a rocker cover and drop a push rod out and lift one of the lifters out of place with a telescopic magnet and look at the bottom of the lifter, you cant get it out and touch it though as it wont fit through the push rod guide.
ECU?
Coil fault, but unlikely that they are all stuffed in one go, you could check the voltage to the coil(s)?
Something come adrift in the throttle body is the shaft rotating the butterfly, loose, etc?
Long shot how good is your battery?
Could it be Crank position Sensor?
I would imagine if it were ckp it wouldn't run.
Is your lpg injected or single point?

I don't have an OBD reader, looking into that today. Also depending on what's involved I might put the car up on stands and have a look at what's involved in unbolting the exhaust where the y pipe joins and meets the centre box.
Its single point LPG, and as before the car performs the same on lpg as petrol. It had a new intank pump about 30k ago, but that's not to say its not dead, but fuel squirts a good 2 foot out of the hose and LPG flows fine.
The power loss was gradual, but not over years, maybe a few weeks. I do suspect cam, but at this stage not confident enough of a mechanic to pull rockers and then pull lifters etc as out of 4 cars and allot of bad luck its my only running car!
Battery is nearly 2 years old 900 CCA century, voltage is 12.3 20 mins after turning car off, and 13.1 - 13.2 with car running headlights/ac on.
As stated before when its not under load it freely revs past 5000 without any issue. I have changed the leads and plugs as I had a set ready for its next 50k service, and has made no difference. The only thing to note was two of the plugs were a tad loose, and came out almost by hand - this concerns me - back pressure? blocked exhaust?
Possibilities:
1. I believe you have cat converters on your '95, they could be blocked up. As they get hot they get worse. Single point LPG systems fitted to cat equipped vehicles without exhaust sensors are known to run rich and damage cats.
2. Knock sensor picking up a damaged head gasket and retarding the ignition under load?
