    Help needed

    Hey guys

So I just tried selecting low range for the first time but it didn't seem to want to engage, the amber light just kept flashing along with the beep.

The car was sitting flat, handbrake on, foot brake depressed, selected netruel, slid the gear selector across to the low range side and the light flashes and the beep continues. When I then move back to high range the light stops flashing and beeping stops. I tried a number of times and each time waited at least 1minute for the light to go out but no luck.

Am I doing something wrong in the process or might there be another problem? I doubt the previous owner of 2 years ever used low range, so I am guessing its been years since it has been selected.

    Thanks

Can't see that you are doing anything wrong. It should engage within 10 seconds. It obviously needs further investigation. Can't suggest anything, other than your trusty mechanic.

Sound s like you have a problem with the shift motor. I would take it off and bench test it.

Yes, it'll either be that or the ecu if yours was built before 98.

The earler ecu without the heat sink had a habit of melting internally, it usually takes the motor with it.

If you open up the ecu you'll see and smell it.

The later model ecus had a heat sink and is a direct swap. They're no to expensive off fleabay.
