    More power inside

    Hi

I have just done a write up on how I added more power outlets in the rear ashtray space.

P38 Range Rover Rear Ashtray Power Outlet

    Works a treat

I purchaed a Narva cig and 2xUSB outlet box and sat it in the front ashtray aparture, meaning I now have two cig outlets and 2xUSB's in the front.

Why didn't I think of doing the same in the rear. Great idea.

My only questions is whether the wire to the front (on 20amp circuit from memory) would be overloaded adding more outlets.

I do have a heavy duty cable running front to back that I could probably tap in to, with an inline fuse.

    Thanks for the idea.

    Hi

I only ever think this is going to be used for USB devices so current draw is not an issue. I have a second battery setup going in sometime soon and intend to have outlets in the rear hooked up to that to run the fridge etc.

Yeah. Sounds good. That's what my HD cable feeds. The deep cycle battery box in the OSR corner (120ah). I bought an abr sidewinder box. I've also added another deep cycle battery (65ah) in parallel in the sub-floor. Along with a compressor. Can't have enough power outlets these days given the gadgets we like to have.

I'll be cribbing your idea, to it haven't patented it. Cheers.

I fitted a 4 Pin unit and separate On/Off switches into the X5. It fitted "neatly enough" into the ashtray. I haven't seen them again though.
I bought one of those 3 pin units with USB for my other car from eBay. Only 1 of the slots worked and yesterday that stopped working and blew the fuse for the ashtray as well. Reminds me to get another one.
    Oh well!! Say la vee.
