    ABS fault and Traction Failure

After my issue with the heat affected coolant tank and brake reservoir, I have ABS fault and Traction Failure messages coming up. If I clear the faults with FaultMate, they reoccur.

I have attached the faults and the input readings, any thoughts on how to proceed?

    Faults:
THE ABS FAULT CODE MEMORY CONTAINS NO CODES FOR INTERMITTENT FAULTS -:
BUT DOES CONTAINS FAULT CODES FOR THE FOLLOWING CURRENT FAULTS -:
03,4: REAR RIGHT INLET VALVE OPEN CIRCUIT., (THIS HAS OCCURRED 7 TIMES).
03,5: REAR RIGHT OUTLET VALVE OPEN CIRCUIT, (THIS HAS OCCURRED 7 TIMES).
04,1: NO TRACTION VALVE OPEN CIRCUIT, (FIRST OCCURANCE).
05,1: FRONT RIGHT OUTLET VALVE SHORT TO GROUND, (FIRST OCCURANCE).

    Input values:

Sorry to have to say this, but it may be you have cooked your brake modulator

I saw a post recently from someone saying that they can be rebuilt.

    Best of Luck

I have just realised, interestingly, I did not have the ABS fault and Traction failure messages after the 'incident' and the subsequent roadside coolant fixes. Only after I pulled off the abs reservoir and the ABS modulator multiplug connector!!

Is there anything special one must do once those have been disconnected? There is very little is the workshop manual about the ABS modulator, as they describe it an non-servicable unit.

    Hi

I would try cleaning up the contacts on the ABS connector with something like deoxit

One of the prerequisites is to have the battery disconnected when removing the modulator. It could also be worth reseating the plugs. Then one out of left field, how is your battery condition?

Thanks for good info, I will reseat the plug and clean it. Other info:

    - New alternator and big 960CCA battery, so charge is good
    - 1 yo accumulator
    - Brake booster pump operators on ignition normally
    - Fuses and relays look good

Maybe I can test continuity between the ABS ECU and the modulator plug looking at the wiring diagrams in RAVE.

I did try to clean all the connectors, but it didnt, work, but I now know why.

This turned out to be a broken wire/ribbon in the ABS booster/modulator behind the abs unit (embedded) connector. A replacement ABS unit solved the problem. See this thread.

Here is a link to some photos of the ABS unit replacement: HERE.

I ended up moving the expansion tank to get access to brake line bureid down the back and left it off during bleeding. Otherwise it looks all too familiar .

PM Paul (ex hardrange) to get contact details for the guy who puts together the ABS rebuild kits. I would also try Rupert, he is a guru on all things Elec/ECU.
