Thread: Low Brake Fluid Alarm driving me nuts!

I get the low wash water warning every time I stop the engine but its always full, I've tried re-seating the connector on the sensor but it hasn't helped.

I did get the low brake fluid warning a couple of times a few months ago but that went away by itself.

Then there's the door locks opening and closing while I'm driving along....



I'll get round to electrical work but I'm swapping out the rubber bushes with a full Superpro set at the moment, front radius arms and rear trailing arms at the weekend and the rear panhard today, only the front panhard to go. The mechanical stuff is much easier to work on.

If you fill the wash bottle up while the ignition is on, the low level alarm won't reset and the message will stay on...

In both cases (washer and brakes) my advice FWIW is, if you haven't done so already, disconnect the battery completely (pos and neg) for 10 mins then reconnect and see if the respective systems reset...

Wen i was adding the "wings" to my front nudge bar and and had to remove the bumper, we noticed an unplugged connector, turned out it was the washer fluid connector and someone had shorted out the lead with a connector across the cable.

We must have disturbed something because I now get the alarm each time I turn the beast on or off

So with the brake fluid warning i would be looking for dodgy or dirty connectors

I'm pretty sure they're just a reed switch activated by a float. The ones in the classic Rangie header tank used to corrode internally, I wonder if that's what is happening...
My low brake fluid thingo is doing yhe same thing occasionally.

Thanks for the replies guys! Ill clean the terminals again, but I fear benji might be on the right track. Seeing as I had the system flushed, perhaps the float has been dislodged?

The only other times it has alarmed is on a massive steep hill off-road with the nose pointed down. The angle of the reservoir may have set the previous ones off.

Check the plug from the sensor where it joins into the becm and make sure that is clean and tight.

Lol, that'd be assuring. Heading down a long steep hill and the fluid alarm comes on. Thanks for that heads up.

A bit like the classic sump pickup, with the oil pressure light coming on on steep stuff.

I've also had the low brake fluid alarm going down a steep decent. At the time I was concerned I had over extended a brake line and subsequently broken it. Thankfully it was not the case. It was just a case of p38 paranoia
