Thread: Tailgate & locking problems

Ok here goes.
I have a 2001 P38 HSE.
Seems to have a central locking problem; it will lock and unlock randomly by itself! Can hear it clicking away sometimes in the garage by itself.

Yesterday I couldn't open the tailgate. When I pressed the tailgate button, the car locked and then unlocked! Was not just a one off either; it was every single time I hit the button. But no noise of the solenoid working in the tailgate. Tried giving the tailgate a nudge etc, but I think the wiring is shot somewhere.

Should I start in the drivers door or the tailgate first? I am not 100% on how the central locking and tailgate are wired up, so if anyone has had experience with this before or can point me towards some helpful info it would be appreciated

Actually I may have found the answer to my own problem:

Tailgate won't open + central locking

Drivers door lock actuator/wiring.

Will give this a crack tomorrow and post results.
