Good reminder, I used synthetic fly wire screen on my plenum, it's holding up so far

I've been meaning to do mine with alloy fly mesh, then it's done once and for all.

Reckon these filters and their condition is a good indication of how cherished a p38 has been. Along with the hand brake gator and headlamp wiper blades. That's all you need to look at when prospecting a p38 for purchase!

After reading all I can find on the Air Con system I understand that on earlier cars the ambient temp sender is behind the plenum, if the airflow is greatly reduced over the sensor by blocked filters it effects the operation of the system. Later cars have the sender behind the front bumper
Here`s a passage from a guy with air con woe`s

That applies because on earlier cars, like mine, the sensor was not behind the bumper, but in the air intake plenum chamber for the car ventilation system. Obviously a blocked filter would stop external air getting to the sensor.
They moved the sensor to behind the bumper, where it records true external temperature, but is protected by the bumper from wind chill, because in the plenum chamber it suffered from heat soak, would read artificially high after a warmed up car stopped for a while. This 'stopped' heat from being supplied when you re-started your journey.

I replaced the plenum filter with similar material from Clark Rubber...(duckpond filter or some such). I then put a layer of flyscreen over the top of the filter material before reassembling. Works very well.

Any recommendations for a cheap(er) ready source of pollen filters? I see the Ryco catalogue in SCA lists one but none ever in stock (of course!).
