P38 rims for the 2000 model are 8" rims. The 275/65/16 will suit the rims ok. Others can comment on whether the larger tyre will catch mudguards/wheel well liners etc with steering on full lock or when EAS is at access height. Highly unlikely that the new tyre will fit in the spare wheel space in the boot.

Boot space is not a concern as he intends to get a rear bar and hang it off that.

What size are the standard p38 tyres?

Standard tyres for the 7" rims as fitted to the 4.0 litre are 235/70/16.
4.6 engines had 8" rims with 255/65/16 or 255/55/18 tyres.

265/75/16 tyres will be ok. He will need to remove the front mudflaps to use them and they will gently touch the rear wheel arch liner, but not enough to destroy it.

If he lifts his P38 it won't scrub at all ;-)

Yep. What Keith said. Front mud flaps be gone. And slight rub on the rear under unusual articulation. But only a rub, no damage. On highway height I will get a slight rub in the rear drivers side on cornering hard and hit a decent bump. But more a scrub and no damage.

Do keep in mind he may want to carry temporary bump stop packers if he pops a bag or has EAS failure. Can drive OK on smooth roads but bumps make the tyres scrub and wouldn't travel like that for too long. I carry spare bags, manual override switch of the eas and manual inflation valve kit so I hope not to use the bump stop packers but they are in the back just in case.

I run BFG KM2's in 265/75/16 on an 8 inch rim. Other tyre brands may yield different results. The KM2's are probably a taller 32 inch, but not that wide a road contact path/width for a 265.

I created a thread somewhere on here before I bought them, and some comments after I bought them.

I run 265 75 16`s A/T`s on D2 rims.. I adjusted the std ride hight up 1cm. In standard hight I can get very miner rubbing when offroad. High mode no issues and highway mode none so far but I generally set the EAS to lock to stop it dropping. The car can be moved in access mode with very limited lock.
You will need to have a bypass kit at hand in case of an EAS failure as if the car drops to the bump stops, it will sit on the tyres, immovable. I carry 4 blocks of wood along with an eas bypass set for emergencies. I have kept the front mudflaps but probably best to remove them. Spare will not fit the wheel well.

Good luck with the rear bar, I am in the process of getting one fabricated after over 6 months searching and researching.

I do plan on getting an EAS bypass, although who does them now that Hard Range has shut shop?

And Pete you mention bump stop packers.. Is that just a fancy word for blocks of wood?
