Oil pressure low :(
The last two days I've had a pressure guage on the motor.
When hot I get 30psi at 2500. 38 psi at 5200. 8psi at 750rpm. And 1 or 2 psi at 500rpm. So not exactly healthy - but driving around I'm not going to do any damage.
At a cold idle I get 30, and 38 at 2000.
Sometimes the pressure will jump around a couple of psi (especially low in the revs - which may be excess bearing float). It also jumps around higher on the revs which I'm wondering if it's the pressure valves (maybe I assembled them wrong?)
There is also an audible knock on the motor. It's too heavy to be a lifter, but to light to be a bottom end or main. Listening through the stethoscope the right bank sounds perfect, and the left towards the rear is where the knock is heard. I'm hoping logic dictates that if it where a main or big end of be hearing the knock from both banks at the rear - but the bearings have a nice shhhh noise to them. So maybe it's a gudgeon pin - but that wouldn'tbe causing the oil pressure. ..I think.

Gudgeon pins of course don't have pressure oil feed, so can't lose oil pressure. From what I've read, cam bearing failure is more likely or possibly rocker shaft wear. You could of course try a thicker viscosity oil...

I've got 10w50 at the moment, it didn't make any difference compared to the 10w40.
I'm wondering if it's possible to hear the pressure valves in the oil pump. At a cold idle I can hear a clicking noise in the bottom of the timing cover every 5 seconds or so. And wether scoring on the pump face could be causing it?
Atm I'm considering wether plasti guage or buying a micrometer is the way to go, and of there's a way to check the gudgeon to without taking the head off.

Did you try sourcing the pump cover..... as you remember I battled the same issue and after spending on new oil pump, cleaning pressure valves and replacing the O rings, I still had low oil pressure. This was fixed with a new oil pump cover ($$$) that came with everything above. I gambled that my problem was oil pump and not bearings and so far I have not had an issue.
I do also have that low pitch knocking sound in the back of my engine also, havent figured out that one yet...

What brand of oil filter are you running? I ran Ryco for a number of years and had huge oil pressure problems. Going away from Ryco made it better, going back to genuine fixed the issues.

Mmm, funny you should mention that, as it is a ryco filter - Thanks.
I'll be ordering a complete front cover from Island 4x4 in two weeks, but am trying to ascertain exactly what it is before hand. ...

Let us know how it goes once you have fitted new pump cover. My old cover had minor scarring but enough to cause the drop in oil pressure at idle.
