    jUST HAD HEART ATTACK

Making a few calls to have my liner repaired here in Canberra.

I have been quoted up to $1200.00 for it to be repaired, is this right, my heart still hasnt come back up through my rectum yet. All the inquiries were about the same.

There has to be a cheaper way to do this surely.

How else can this be done. When i looked at spare parts i was told its only a couple hundred to have it stuck back up, now this.

Whoops my heart has just come back up.

You can DIY for about $80. I've been quoted $300 to have it done professionally.

Don't let anyone rip you off because you drive a Range Rover. Ring back and tell them you have a patrol and see what they quote you then... Bet it's $500 cheaper at least!

You could make a small hole in the liner and spray some adhesive in with a straw. There is a recent post for doing the whole job, which advises the correct adhesive. I'll see if I can find the link.

Any car upholstery shop will furnish the adhesive. But I bet its available via eBay too.

Trying to re-glue it is not going to work for long. The foam behind the felt deteriorates and what you end up with trying to glue the felt material to the rotting foam which will look worse than having it just hanging.
There is a few write ups on the shell removal, cleanup and applying the new material. sounds all straight forward and on my to do list as well.

Scouse and I had ours done at Granville for $110 each. We did remove the headliner shell and refitted it ourselves.

$1,200 sounds like a replacement rather than a recover.

When my Defender went years ago there were a number of suggestions.
Drawing pins pressed in at regular intervals.
A hat holder screwed up to stop the lining sagging.
And the hole & spray glue as already mentioned.

I pulled out the three panels, stripped the lining and removed the foam that was left.
As mentioned its the foam that breaks down with age not the glue. The trimmer I used suggested an old piece of carpet rubbed over the old foam that's left to remove it.

I took the panels to the trimmer and he spray glued them and applied new headlining material, wasn't that expensive. If I'd got him to do the whole job the labour would have increased the cost.

I have had one done, drive in drive out for $450 5 years ago. Asked again and now $700. I got some correct cloth of E-bay for $45 and did it myself. You can use spray contact adhesive from Bunnings, I got the trade glue but you need a spray gun and compressor.
The best compromise would be take out and refit yourself and get a pro to recover the shell

You could bring it down to me and have it fixed for less that that. Even with the cost of the petrol and a bottle of JD. ;-)

    Recently had mine done too.
I took the liner out and cleaned it up. I had the upholsterer glue the material on though, $230.

Most of the time is on labour to take the liner out, but that's pretty steep! !!
