Unfortunately, it's a sign your BECM has a problem.
I have a car here that self operates its fog lights & I know of other cars with self operating wipers.
Cheese unt Crackers,
The P38 is really trying to annoy me!
The rotten lights are turning themselves off at night and turning on during the day.
I thought I was going nuts with people flashing me until I had to change the belt idler pulley. Happily working away and the lights started flashing on and off with nobody in vehicle.
I was aware that the lights were turning off occasionally at night but had no idea that they were switching on during the day.
The key was in the ignition but not switched on at all?
This has to be the weirdest gremlin yet!
Help, Shirley..... please.

I guess it could be done. You'll probably encounter problems with dash/switch lights which might take a bit more work.
Do you know if the park lights are OK? If so, then controlling the main headlights separately might make it a lot easier.

The biggest problem might be if all the lights are effected.... Might just take a bit more research and observation.
It's really hard being at both ends of the truck at the same time and a shortage of mirrors...
When the headlights turn themselves off at night, do you still have dash lights?
If so, then the park side might be OK.
It might be worthwhile talking to Lee at Labtronx:
Labtronx Home
Lee knows an awful lot about P38 BECMs.
Or Rupert Prior (that's his username too) on here.

Hi Scott,
Is there any chance that any of these guys are in the Newcastle, Central Coast area?
Shirley.
HI guys,
Have swapped the BeCM Power board over from another vehicle but it made no difference.
Tried a fault diagnostic but no fault is being logged.
Have put a new headlamp switch in just for laughs and so far so good, I think?
Cheers,
Shirley.
Hi Scott,
Last check on the lights and they all go out. Dash, parkers, tail lights, headlights all off when the lights are in the ON POSITION AND all go in in the off position.
Just put a new switch in and will have to wait and see what happens..
Cheers,
Shirley.
