    Heater hoses, thor

About 18 months ago I replaced the heater hoses, I can't remember what brand but it looks like it was a cheap one.

The hoses are now rock hard and need replacing.

My question is has anyone replaced these with some 20mm heater hose?

The original hoses have a bend in them, presumably to help with movement between the engine and the firewall, but mine are not moving at all.

So can anyone think of any issues which might arise?

    Thanks
    Steve

I can't see why this wouldn't work. I did the same on my gems quite successfully; it was like that for almost 3 years.

However, after the last rebuild I put bearmach and genuine hoses on, and the quality of these was a lot better than generic dayco heater hose.

The hoses are not the same diameter at each end, so standard hose may be problematic.

The pricing is £2 for britpart and allmakes and £23 for genuine

After some more searching I came across these URO ones from the US, they appear to be properly molded to a larger size on one end about $35 for a pair landed in oz

eBay now has the annoying habit of posting a link to some kind of embedded app instead of the item page

It's item # 161359885866 - just stick that in the search box

I now have a heater bypass in place in the coldest week we have seen for a while

Hopefully my new hoses will arrive post haste !

In the true style of a British Car with a French heating system owned by Germans I can now report that the outlets from the heater are 22mm (7/8" actually) and the outlets from the engine are 19mm (3/4").

So standard heater hose is tricky to use, if you can even find 22mm stuff without going to a specialist supplier.

On the upside my cooling system now seems much happier without the slow leak!

Well I now have a couple of pretty good looking heater hoses in my possession, it just a pity I don't have a P38 to fit them to
