What I have done in the past is, when the engine is cold and switched off use a spray on engine degreaser then rinse it off with water. Just be careful not to get water around the electronics in the fuse box area.

I am looking for any, decent , sugestions for cleaning inside the engine bay. There is a lot of dirt and other crap in there and it makes it hard to see if stuff needs replacing.

I use a gurney....I don't aim directly at fuse box or obvious electrical but never had an issue.

Same here, I use a degreaser from a spray bottle and then the pressure washer.
Apparently chemtech is pretty good it's alkaline slat based, so I am going to get some of that once my current stuff runs out

Degreaser absolutely!!..... 4 for $5 at supercheap Auto.
Hi There,
I use Simple Green out of a hand spray bottle, engine cold, and I usually spray any electrical connections with a bit of WD40, stay away from major electrical bits like the fuse box as mentioned. If you have a sunny day leave the bonnet open and let a bit of through draft help you before starting up. To wash down I usually use the garden hose through one of those rose pattern sprinklers, not really high pressure. My opinion others may vary.
