    I think i have solved the idle problems.

    I was making a slight adjustment to the throttle cable, when i noticed a pipe on the left hand side of the plenum, didnt seem to to connect to anything.

    I also saw on top of the rocker cover on the left, that there was a pipe sticking up, with nothing connected to it. So being the genius that i am i connect said loose pipe to the one on the rocker cover, and i have had no more idle problems.

    Now can somebody tell me what this pipe coming from the plenum is. Its all soft so i am going to get some thicker pipe.

    Can you explain what it is and what it does and would this cause the engine to run a bit rough.

    It's an emission control thing which sucks oil fumes out of the crankcase and sends them back into the engine to be burnt.

    Unlike the good old days where engines just spewed those fumes out into the atmosphere

    If someone has been playing with those pipes, I would recommend you check your PCV valve as well. I believe the GEMS motor has one.

    You'll find another one on the other (right) crankcase at the front of the engine.

    They also get a little fragile as they get older and split. Quite cheap to replace.

    The wikipedia article I linked to shows you in general what one looks like

    The GEMS owners will have to confirm where yours is located, the THOR engine uses a slightly different system

    I recently replaced both the hose & valve on my gems - cost about $20 for both i think simple job to do yourself. The positive crankcase vent is inside the short pipe coming out of left hand side rocker cover where the hose fits.Just pull old one up & out with long nose pliers & replace hose if it is soft, as under vaccum this hose will collapse.
